The Return of Juicy Couture

If you haven’t noticed, socialites and other young, famous stars have been making nods to bringing back a lot of the trends from the early 2000s in their social media posts and styles. I mean, Kendall Jenner’s inspiration behind her 21st birthday dress was a nod to the infamous Paris Hilton look. If you didn’t already know this, please check out the details in this Teen Vogue article about it. Kendall talks about drawing inspiration from Paris in an interview with W Magazine, so this isn’t an inference. It’s a completely legitimate set of facts people.

If you need more proof that the early 2000’s are infiltrating the cool kids and the fashion world, here’s some food for thought. We saw revivals of denim on denim on the runways all throughout 2017. We watched as Bella Hadid showed us that hair-barrettes are back and better than ever when she debuted some with her sleek bob in an iconic series of Instagram photos. We all took a deep breath as mirror pictures became less myspace passé and more societally acceptable as models post them time and time again on their Instagram feeds. We also watched as Tumblr became a relevant platform again, and we thanked our lucky stars so we could stop pretending to care when people judged us for still using it.

Basically, all that was missing from the world was the official return of Juicy Couture. Wannabe baby it-girls everywhere cried when their local Juicy Couture closed down and the only place anyone could find velour tracksuits was the moderately priced Kohl’s collaboration, which naturally delivered subpar results.

So let’s chronicle the recent return of Juicy Couture. First, Kylie (as in Jenner) posted various selfies throughout 2017 in her Juicy tracksuit, including this Instagram photo, but somehow it didn’t seem to catch on right away. So then, Urban Outfitters and Juicy Couture debuted a collaboration starting February 13, 2o17. It had a series of successful drops, but Juicy Couture still wasn’t reaching a status like it did in the days when Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie ruled our lives.

Though, I would like to mention that I was a loyal fan and made some purchases from the collaboration collections. I also simultaneously, and eagerly, broke out my vintage tracksuits for the millionth time.

Here’s me wearing a jacket from the Urban Outfitters collaboration…

And here’s me wearing one of my old tracksuits as my friend and I pretended we are Kim and Paris circa 2003…

Yet, it wasn’t until this February at New York Fashion Week that Juicy Couture made its official comeback. Juicy Couture debuted their Fall 2018 Ready-To-Wear collection in New York and really got people talking. Vogue covered the show where they later made a slideshow and influencers at the show also took notice. Juicy Couture continued on and had a catwalk show at this past London Fashion Week Festival on February 25, which got a lot of publicity from famous bloggers and the Instagram fashion community.

Now Juicy Couture seems to be back and creating amazing pieces that would go well in any modern girl or woman’s wardrobe. If you ask any millennial, Juicy Couture practically invented athleisure. So I’d say the velour tracksuit queens are here to stay, and I am most definitely not mad about it. In the words of Regina George, “these sweatpants are all that fits me right now”.
